ye eheim is the best brand for external filter. For me i have use the eheim for more than 10 year no problem but recently just change to using sump but still i used eheim power head. For 5ft can try 2260 which have a better flow rate.

But with good brand the canister can last longer. And good canister will be self priming, when u turn on the power, the canister will run by itself and get rid of the airlock by itself. Whereas, a poor canister, u have to top up the water and ensure there is no airlock then u can turn on the canister...
