Seniors, I wonder why 1 of 9 SR from the same parents(bought together from farm) have PLJ and the other 8 does not have PLJ? My uncle keeps the 8 together, and the one that have PLJ I raise myself.
Question:
1. Why only 1 ? Anything I do wrong with the SR raising?
2. How to cure PLJ ?
3. What causes PLJ?
Thank you seniors for the answer, hopefully helpful

1. PLJ can cause by many factors like genetics and how we take care the fish. somehow if the fish thin means don't eat a lot can cause PLJ too... if the breeder has PLJ, most of the fries will has PLJ too but not 100%. i saw it before.
2. PLJ cannot cure only can reduce by give a lot of food or put in the pond.
3. see point number 1
i buy 5 pcs sr and i can see the breeders don't has PLJ and now the children all don't has PLJ too until now 20 CM already.
hope this help... cheers....

If i not wrong PLJ are cause by when the arowana is still small n we didn't feed enough food to them then this will cause PLJ.

I think PLJ is mainly due to gene. I had a red which eat a lot until very fat and round but still got PLJ. :031: It is also staying in a big tank.
I heard that PLJ aro will recover when throw into pond.

I believe PLJ is caused by genetics mainly because of inbreeding, and is prevalent especially among the super red . But the jury is still out on this, but at least that the best guess we currently have . Although sometimes (not all the times though), if observed carefully when the fish is at sizes from 5-7 inches, one could foretell whether or not the PLJ is in the making ! I have heard of fatting up your fish could help to reduce the PLJ somewhat, but to this date, that has not been the case for one of my super reds . This specimen eats a lot, but the PLJ is still there and seems to increase with the size of the fish .
As long as the fish is red, than PLJ is a non issue for me . I like to think of its PLJ as a sign of being arrogant !!! I have to find some excuses and comforts for this minor defect in my super red . :011:

I had read in a japanese aro magazine that feeding multiple small meal instead of one big meal will reduce PLJ. It said that PLJ is due to internal organ problem.
To me, I feel that it is link to gene as well as over feeding. Maybe pumping the aro too fast and too slow will cause PLJ as the bone on the upper jaw is harder than the lower jaw. The softer lower jaw will out grow the upper jaw under too much food and too little food.
Once aro is thrown into the pond, the PLJ will reduce as some aro breeders had mentioned. I think it is the sun light as Vitamins D is required for bone.
