Hi, my 8inch. red Aro like to rest at bottom of the tank that it never been like that before. I checked the water and it was fine, PH at 7.5 and 30c. Sometimes it stays in front of the water outlet for 1 or 2 minutes and go back to the bottom.
I got it for 2 months and it was a big eater. Right now it lazy to eat and sometimes shaking its head like something is stuck in its throat.
Please give me some advices.
Thanks
maybe u can try to change the water 25%. or intro some tankmate into the tank then your Arowana won't always stay at the bottom.
As for my Arowana also stays at the bottom of the tank as i return home from work & on the light. it become very lively again, won't stays at the bottom of the tank.

I heard my LFS owner told me that I need a UV Light to kill parasites in the tank, so my aro. won't be stress.
Is it good for arowana?
Thanks.

in my experience .. for 1 aro no need UV.. just do a regular water change and maintain good filtration..
UV side effect can wash out the fish color... good and bad bacteria also wash out...
try switch off the lamp, put some tank mate.. provide good water...
aro like that one. sometimes stressed sometimes playful... like human :D

Agreed with chief. My XB was not eating and always stay at a corner of the tank after fightened by thunder storm. After I put in a few tankmates, it started to move around and eating too.

I just moved my 4 parrots into Aro.s tank and the Aro started to swim around those tank mates. Sometimes chasing them too.
I love it.
Thanks for the helps.

Just for your information.
suitable pH for an Arowana is between 6.8 - 7.2.
suitable water temp between 27 - 30C.
An aro which always stays at the bottom of the tank is not a good sign.
Aros usually hover near the surface of the water.
I am gussing that your tank
1. pH was too high
2. water temp a little to high.
by adding tank mates you indirectly lowered the pH (additional fish waste)
try lowering the water temp to 28 -29 C
just a newbie thinking :016:

My tank pH is 6.6-6.9. Temp is 28C, raise to 30C after my aro won't eat and stay at the bottom of the tank. Salt 0.1%. Change water 10% everyday. New water is aged for 4 days. Tankmate is kapiat, redtail catfish, and pleco. Ammonia level is still ok. So what's the problem that my aro still stay at the bottom and won't eat? No sympton of any deseases, but last night she bite her own tail. Pls help.

Agree with bros saying: 1) tank mates can also help aro to improve the diet, like snatching for food :), 2) water condition, 3) temp of water

Fish staying at the bottom of the tank as oppose to normally active swimming about fish is not a good sign. It's your fish's way of telling you something in its living environment is irritating/uncomforting to it. Usually, when fish(es) exhibiting this kind of behavior such as resting/staying on the bottom of tank is the sign of shock . There are many types of shocks :
1. Temperature shock is usually brought on by a sudden change in tank's water temp.
2. Osmotic shock is usually bring on by a sudden change in water chemistry such as pH, sudden change in total hardness/softness of water, a sudden change in water's salinity (i.e. you might have add too much salt during last water change :011: ).
3. Toxic shock could also bring about the observed symptom in your fish(es) . Ammonia/nitrite/nitrate is toxic to your fish and has the tendency to increase overtime if your tank's filtration is inadequate or overcrowding/overstocking of fishes .
4. Transportation shock (this should be the least reason of the cause, because from what you had described, it's seemed like you have been keeping it for awhile) .
So please go through the causes, and trying to figure out what could be the most likely reason, and take steps to correct the situation . At the very least, series of 25-30% water change should be performed over the next few days to improve the tank's water quality.
Good luck bro . :hand:
