This is the largest fish found strictly in fresh water. The arapaima is very unique among fish— it can breathe air! They have a very primitive lung and need to take a gulp of air every 5-20 minutes. The can take up oxygen through their gills also but they typically live in oxygen-poor waterways and supplement with air breathing. The arapaima is a fierce and stealthy predator. They feed on the surface of the water and will even jump out of the water and grab birds, lizards and small primates from low-hanging branches.

So yeah if that isn't cool enough I saw something else that freaked me out!

saw a show in animal planet yesterday, it talks about amazone river, one of the higlight is this pirarucu , its amazing to see that this size of fish can produce thousands of fries, and when the summer come the parents along with its youngs migrate to deeper lake, and the youngs move in syncronize movements just like sardines in the sea.. when they moves they creates wall of fishes. its simply amazing.
