I have seen this problem in my aro before too . This condition is called shimmying, when the aro trying to flex its body from side to side, and not travel much through the water . There are several causes to this .
1. High nitrite is the most likely reason . When i feed too much in any period, and don't have times to change water, my aros shimmy alots . At first I thought it was just a co-incident, but it happened quite often enough for me to take notice. So everytime now, when my aros do that, i check my water's nitrite level, and sure enough, nitrite is very high . So please take a note of it .
2. Deteriorating or there is/are change(es) in water parameters ( ties to high nitrite too) .
3. Sometimes out of temperature ranges for aros (should not be the case for most of you, since overthere has a tropical weather ) . But if the heater is not working properly or during the winter times, when the weather gets cold, and even when water parameters are extremely good, my aros do shimmy from times to times .
4. If there is/are tiny suspended particles in the tank, such as when the water gets cloudy and dirty, aros do shimmy as well, because these tiny particles causes skin and gill to be irritated .
As how to solve the problem, i think we all know . :011: Just want to share , hope this help .

Hmmm, I only observed a S shape/form momentarily with my aros plus a little bit of movemements . This form would only lasted a few seconds and the aro's body shape went back to normal .
Perhaps we are both talking about 2 different things . :011:
