This few days I realised my SR and x back their having tail rot....and portion of tails starting to tear and drop. Any bros can advise why this is so, due to water condition or over crowded in tank?Presently having 3 xback and one SR and 2 SD in a 4 x 2.5.x 2 tank....

SD-Silver Dollar?
If cause is biting, then the tail will grow back. If infection, you need very clean water always to prevent making it worse. Then you can treat present infection (maybe reduce load also because big load uses us much of the oxygen very fast).

If that was the case. Remove the SD and threat the problem before it gets worse :003:
Thanks bro. Oxy for the info.

Fin rot /tail rot could be caused by the following :
1. Over crowding
2. Poor water quality( especially ammonia level)/infrequent change of water .
3. The number 1 and 2 causes would eventually lead to bacterial/fungal infection .
According to the information you had given, your tank is ~150 gallons/568 liters . With 6 residents at the sizes you had specified in the tank, i think it could be a case of bacterial infection exacerbates by over crowding/over feedings and deterioration of tank's water (although i could be wrong with my diagnosis from afar through the internet :011: :011: :011: ). A rough rule of thumb is 5-6 gallons of water/square inches of fish . As you can see, you need another larger tank ,or do water change more frequently . :003:
Treatment of fin rot is easy . Improve the water quality by changing it more frequently, add 0.3% of aquarium salt, add anti- finrot medication . Good luck bro
