correct method from boss dallen :) heater 30 to 32degree salt put more depend on tank size. if can can post pic of the fish so that we know actually what happen from the pic

Whatever it is... do not pull the scale out, just leave it as it is and put on heater at least 30 deg. with salt and add in Melafix according to manufacturer's instructions... :003:

I bought a sick xb in august 2006. Scales were dropping on both sides. I put it in very a tank with our water purifier and dissolved oxygen generator. After a few days it threw up and mucus came out of its mouth that was covering his gills.

After then he recovered well... Now ok. Use very clean water with high dissolved oxygen and need to clear gills if mucus is covering it.

I brought it to the vet to have a histopathology done. The vet said it was a slime that delveloped in the gills. It comes out when the gills are blocked or if the gills had parasites. If the water treatment (I did) did not work, the fish will be dead for sure because it will cover all the gills. Funny thing about it is I only ran the water through our dissolved oxygen generator. I did not put medicine in the water. The fish got cured. So my motto now, is .... super clean water with high dissolved oxygen in low ph.... health problem will be minimal or none.

Oh u are using a water purifier?at my home using this National Water Purifier.So,i wonder if it is good for my future arowana. Our water purifier is like the image below.

Believe if you pull it out, it will grow back faster and nicer. Sometime if you leave it, the scale will drop out on its own.
